EERA JP Hydropower welcomes new Coordinator Ole Gunnar Dahlhaug

Ole Gunnar Dahlhaug is professor at the Department of Energy and Process Engineering, Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU). He has extensive national and international experiences in the field of hydropower research. As a part of the Executive Management Team of the Norwegian Research Centre for Hydropower Technology (HydroCen), Dahlhaug actively contributed to the establishment of the JP Hydropower.

“My vision for the JP Hydropower is to make hydropower an enabler of the clean energy transition”, says Dahlhaug.

Ambition: To bring European Researchers together

Dahlhaug will start coordinating the JP Hydropower with a team of currently 29 member institutions from June 2020.

“The ambition is to bring European researchers together to discuss future research challenges and to work with the sub-programmes to meet JP Hydropower’s Strategic Research Agenda”, says Dahlhaug.

Dahlhaug has been leading several research projects over the years and is currently coordinating the interdisciplinary H2020 project HydroFlex (Increasing the value of Hydropower through increased Flexibility). He has also extensively collaborated with the hydropower industries. Dahlhaug sees the development of new cross-disciplinary research projects as a core activity of the EERA JP Hydropower:

“A lot of work has already been done by the previous coordinators and there is a team of highly qualified people in charge of the sub-programmes. I am looking forward to having a discussion on future challenges and hope to find possibilities for new research topics, establish research consortiums, and create future innovations. I would like to see cross-disciplinary research projects established between the sub-programmes, and I really would like to invite new members in the future”.

We are very much looking forward to having Dahlhaug as our new Coordinator and would like to thank Pål-Tore Storli, who has been Acting Coordinator of JP Hydropower since December 2019, for his excellent interim management.
